Serving: 1 drink / Prep Time: About 5 minutes / Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients:
- Kosher salt (for rimming)
- 1 wedge of fresh grapefruit (for garnish and rimming)
- Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (approximately 2 ounces)
- Fresh lime juice (around ½ ounce)
- Simple syrup (¼ ounce) or granulated sugar (1 teaspoon)
- Mezcal or tequila (2 ounces)
- Club soda (2 ounces)
- Ice (enough to fill your glass)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Glass:
- Pour a small amount of kosher salt onto a flat plate.
- Take the grapefruit wedge and rub it along half the outer rim of a highball glass. Roll the moistened rim in salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
- Mix the Drink:
- In the prepared glass, combine the fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup or sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Add the mezcal or tequila and fill the glass with ice. Stir gently for about 30 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
- Finish and Serve:
- Top off the drink with the club soda and stir lightly to combine.
- Garnish with the reserved grapefruit wedge.
Pro Tips:
- For a bolder flavor, consider using mezcal for its smoky notes, though tequila works perfectly for a classic version.
- Experiment with the sweetness level by adjusting the amount of syrup or sugar.
- If you enjoy a slightly stronger drink, reduce the club soda to 1 ounce.
